TORONTO -- Midfielder Atiba Hutchinson has been named Canadian male soccer player of the year for the fourth time.

The 32-year-old from Brampton, Ont., is leading Canada's charge in the penultimate round of World Cup qualifying while continuing to excel for Turkish club side Besiktas.

Hutchinson, who also won in 2010, 2012 and 2014, joins Dwayne De Rosario as the only four-time winner of the award.

Defender Kadeisha Buchanan was named female player of the year on Thursday.

Voting for the awards, which are sponsored by BMO, was done by Canadian media and coaches.
