Smaller models dominate Geneva auto show

GENEVA - Automakers are thinking small at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

The event features 260 exhibitors and dozens of world premieres including smaller compacts and SUVs targeted at cost-conscious buyers.

Peugeot is unveiling the new Peugeot 208, while GM's Adam Opel marque will debut its Mokka compact SUV.

Premium automakers are downsizing too, with Audi to show off its new A3 and Mercedes-Benz revealing a rejuvenated A-Class.

Analysts expect the March 8-18 event to feature efficiency improvements for traditional gasoline- or diesel-powered cars as well as some of the daring design ideas that have marked previous shows.

Automakers such as VW, Ford and Toyota will be giving the press a first glimpse of their new offerings Monday.
