MONCTON, N.B. - The sister of a 55-year-old woman who disappeared last year after leaving work at a Moncton mall says she knew right away that something was wrong.

She was testifying today at the trial of Romeo Cormier who is accused of abducting the woman and holding her captive in his basement apartment for almost a month.

The identify of the woman is protected by a publication ban.

Cormier, 63, is charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault with a weapon, theft and uttering death threats.

The sister told the court she began calling police and local hospitals after her brother-in-law phoned to say his wife should have been home from work hours before.

The sister described the ensuing efforts to find the woman, and began crying as she described the joy she felt on March 24, 2010 when she learned her sister was alive.
