I Swear By This Nexxus Blow Dry Cream For At-Home Blowouts

In the summer, I spend most of my time with my hair up or in an easy-to-maintain style that can hold up to humidity. But now that the cooler, crisper weather is starting to roll in, I’m happy to lean into heat styling and bring back my blowout.

Of course, a good blowout requires more than the right heat tool. You also need the right products to help your style last. For context, I have fine hair that can get wavy and a little frizzy when I let it air dry. I rely heavily on styling products to get my hair silky and smooth, and to make sure all that hard work lasts longer than a couple of hours.

I’ve tried plenty of balms, creams, sprays, and powders over the years, but none have given me results quite like the Nexxus Blow Dry Cream.

My experience using the Nexxus Blow Dry Cream

Unfortunately for me, my hair doesn’t like to hold styles for very long. While they stick a little longer when the heat and humidity go away, I do still rely on products to help keep my mane looking its best, and since I’m a blowout girl through and through, a good styling cream or spray is 100% necessary. While surfing and scrolling, I landed on the Nexxus Blow Dry Cream. I was impressed by the reviews (4.2 stars!) and thought it would be worth giving a go.

Using it is pretty foolproof. The tube recommends using a quarter-sized amount of product, similar to how much shampoo I’d typically use (you may need to adjust based on your hair texture and density). I work it into my strands, from roots to tip, combing everything through with my fingers to ensure it’s evenly distributed. Then I used a regular ol’ comb to ensure I didn’t miss any spot. There was a time I used too much, and my hair did look a little greasy, which was tragic, but you live, and you learn.

More than just a styling product, the cream offers heat protection up to 450°F, 48-hour frizz control, and a 72-hour humidity shield. That means I get to reap the rewards of my hard work (and arm workout) for at least two days. I find that I get the best results when I put the cream into hair that is 75-80% dry. Not only does this cut the drying and styling time way down, but it gives the product a chance to coat each strand, not just slip and slide around soaking wet hair.

The cream is very lightweight and has a mild rose scent. If I’m being totally honest, the scent is probably my least favourite thing about this product, as I don’t gravitate towards floral scents, but it i doesn’t stick around for a long time.

I typically use a Shark FlexStyle when I want to do a blowout, and find that it pairs perfectly with this tool. The combination leaves my hair looking silky and shiny, and with way more volume than I get with a typical air-dry. The results typically last 48 hours, which is basically double the amount of time a style would last on my hair. It’s also how often I wash my hair, so I’m happy with those results. Those with thicker strands that don’t get greasy as fast as mine probably would see results that last closer to 72 hours.

Is the Nexxus Blow Dry Cream worth it?

I think so! It’s less expensive than the luxury products I’ve tried, ringing in at around $17, but performs just as well, if not better. With regular use, a tube lasts me around six months, sometimes a little longer, so the cost per use is incredibly low, especially compared to the price of a quick wash and style at a blowout bar or salon. I’ve repurchased it multiple times and used it with pretty much every hair length, from a chin-length bob to my current long locks. Safe to say, it’s not leaving my vanity anytime soon.
