KINGSTON - The trial of a family accused of killing three daughters and a wife over family honour has been adjourned until after the holidays.

More defence witnesses are expected to take the stand when the trial resumes in the new year.

Mohammad Shafia, his wife Tooba Yahya and their 20-year-old son Hamed are on trial for four counts each of first-degree murder.

They're accused of killing three teenage Shafia sisters and Shafia's first wife in a polygamous marriage, and staging the deaths to look like a car accidentally plunged into a canal.

A surviving sibling of the girls testified for the defence this week and was subject to a gruelling cross-examination.

The brother -- who can't be named and hasn't been allowed to see his family since they were arrested in July 2009 -- asked at the end of his testimony if he could hug his parents goodbye.

The answer was no.
