The City of Saskatoon says traffic restrictions on Circle Drive have been lifted about 24 hours after the 108th Street overpass was struck by a semi hauling an oversized load. In an update sent Thursday afternoon, the City said the northbound curb lane on Circle Drive has reopened. “All loose concrete was removed from the overpass and is safe for drivers travelling underneath. At the same time, engineers completed a detailed inspection to understand the scope of repairs required. The overpass remains safe for use,” the City said. The overpass was hit Wednesday around 5:00 p.m. when a truck carrying an excavator on a flatbed exceeded the bridge’s height clearance. The collision damaged the overpass and scattered debris onto the roadway and forced the closure of the curb lane, leading to a long traffic backup along Circle Drive. A separate collision involving a semi hauling heavy equipment at the Circle Drive, Highway 11 and Highway 16 cloverleaf last week is still under repair, and traffic restrictions remain in place at that location until the work is completed.
