A British Columbia woman who survived inside a van for seven weeks in the remote northeastern Nevada mountains, drinking melted snow and eating small amounts of trail mix and hard candy, has been transferred to a medical facility back in British Columbia.

Rita Chretien, 56, was transferred from St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls in Idaho on Tuesday.

However, the search for her husband, 59-year-old Albert Chretien, continues. Bad weather hampered the search Tuesday.

The Penticton couple became lost when they accidently veered on to a logging road en route to Las Vegas in March, and their van became stuck.

Albert Chretien left the van to find help on March 22, and hasn't been seen since. Searchers are hoping he found shelter, but say the prognosis is grim.

The mountainous area where their van got stuck has faced weeks of snow, rain and chilly conditions.

Rita Chretien was able to eat solid foods on Monday, an improvement in her condition that led doctors to recommend her transfer back to her home country.

Her family said they are pleased she can recovery in privacy.

The couple left their home in Penticton, B.C., on March 19 to attend a trade show in Las Vegas. They had last been seen in surveillance video captured at a food mart in Baker City, Oregon.

The couple's family reported them missing on March 30, when they failed to return from their trip as planned.
