HALIFAX - The Nova Scotia government is allowing all residents of a flooded region of southwestern Nova Scotia to return to their homes.

A spokeswoman for the Emergency Management Office said today that fears over the state of a dam on the Tusket River have faded.

About 20 residents who live below the Nova Scotia Power dam had been told Thursday to stay out of their homes out of concerns it might be breached.

But with the waters continuing to recede, the Emergency Management Office told residents they could go home.

Nova Scotia Power crews reported Thursday that pressure had eased on the Vaughn Lake dam after recording a drop of about 25 centimetres.

A local state of emergency has been lifted in the community of Quinan, where several people were forced to flee last weekend after a record 250 millimetres of rain fell on the area.
