The Prince Edward Island Liberal government is spending $750,000 to lure the popular U.S. morning talk show "Live with Regis and Kelly" to the province this summer, an opposition politician says.

Progressive Conservative MLA Jim Bagnall told the P.E.I. legislature that sources say the show will air some programs from Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort.

Tourism Minister Robert Vessey refused to confirm or deny the report in the house, saying if anything was confirmed it would be announced at a later date.

"My department is always in negotiations trying to do great things for the province," Vessey responded to Bagnall's question.

Co-host Kelly Ripa dropped a hint on her program Wednesday, saying her daughter was reading Lucy Maud Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables."

While P.E.I.'s economy is expected to grow in 2010, the high Canadian dollar is seen as worrisome for the tourism industry, where American tourists are considered lucrative customers.

Country music stars Keith Urban and Taylor Swift are both lined up to play in the province at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival which runs July 8 through July 11.

Live with Regis and Kelly airs on CTV in Canada.
