Throughout the month of August, Regina swimmers will get the chance to use Wascana Outdoor Pool at night. These late-night swims are scheduled for the rest of August. “It’s a great experience for all families to come out and have a swim. All our amenities are open. Everyone gets to experience the fun of Wascana in a completely different environment,” said Mack Klyne, supervisor of outdoor pools for the City of Regina. The first late-night swim of 2026 was held on Aug 6. The sessions are set for Gillian Kimens is a youth swimmer from the Regina Dolphins Swim Team. She was able to practice in one of the swimming lanes. “I find it really cool and fun, especially since it’s not so busy,” said Kimens. “I know Wascana gets really busy around 5 p.m. It’s nicer because you can go and don’t have to wait in a long line.” Alycia McIntyre and Tori Pinnell also attended the night swim with their two-year-old daughter Braelynn. McIntyre said the extended time allowed her to attend. “It’s nice because we work during the day. [Braelynn] is in daycare. It’s nice being able to come after supper,” she said. When the pool lights are on, they can be seen from College Avenue and the walking path around Wascana Lake. “When it gets around dusk, we do a safety check. If it’s too dark, we always adjust [the lighting]. We are adjusting it throughout the swim,” said Klyne. This is the fourth year the pool has offered night swimming. A glow themed night is scheduled for Aug 20, with a movie night on Aug 27.
