The University of Regina Students Association (URSA) is now the official representative of students on campus following a successful referendum. The announcement came late Tuesday afternoon, as the union received 91 per cent approval in the vote. In a post to social media, the newly minted organization thanked its supporters and identified its initial priorities. “As we head into the new year, we will be eager to start filling out our general council and entering negotiations with the university over issues of student life,” the statement read. According to the post, the union’s interim team will be working to ready the organization for “future leaders to take up in March.” URSA replaces the University of Regina Student’s Union (URSU) after it dissolved in October. A contentious online meeting on Oct. 22 marked the final act of controversy for the embattled organization. At the time of its dissolution, URSU had been evicted from the University of Regina campus and was under investigation for the misappropriation of funds. RELATED STORIES
