Thirteen SaskEnergy employees suspended in connection to fuel theft

SaskEnergy has indefinitely suspended 13 employees after a fuel theft scheme was discovered. Wayne Mantyka has the details.

More than a dozen employees with SaskEnergy have been let go after a recent investigation uncovered a fuel theft scheme.

According to a loss report released Monday, 13 SaskEnergy employees were “indefinitely suspended” following an internal investigation.

The investigation was centred on an internal fuel theft, mainly perpetrated within the Crown’s construction department from February 2024 to the summer of 2025. The theft was first reported in Q3 of 2025-2026.

The matter has been reported to police and the Crown has hired an independent investigator. Additionally, SaskEnergy’s internal audit department has been engaged and is conducting a review, according to the Crown.

A comprehensive report, detailing the loss, is planned to be released sometime in February. SaskEnergy intends to recover the value of the fuel taken.

In a response to CTV News, SaskEnergy declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

“What we can confirm is that thirteen individuals were identified as part of an initial investigation, and their employment was terminated by way of an indefinite suspension,” the statement read.

In another report, SaskPower provided an update on unauthorized charges to fuel and procurement cards which were previously reported.

It found that an employee improperly charged $7,173 to a corporate fuel card. Two other employees improperly charged $3,184 and $1,114 to procurement cards.

Nearly all the money has been paid back and one of employees has been dismissed.

The Crown did not elaborate on the employment status of the other two workers.
