Sask. man convicted of impersonating a police officer, assault, once again arrested for hate speech

A southeast Saskatchewan man who founded the now defunct “Canadian Nationalist Party” has once again been arrested for hate speech.

Travis Patron, 35, of Redvers, Sask. was charged with one count of willful promotion of hatred on April 10 following an extended investigation.

Just shy of a year earlier, on April 16, 2025, Carlyle RCMP received a report of hateful material being posted online in a public forum.

An investigation determined that someone was willfully promoting hatred against an identifiable group. That investigation ended with Patron’s arrest.

The accused is set to appear in Carlyle Provincial Court on May 13.

Patron’s arrest earlier this month is the latest in a long history of encounters with law enforcement.

In June 2022, Patron was found guilty of two counts of assault causing bodily harm related to the assault of two Regina teachers in 2019.

Later that year, he was found guilty of hate speech in connection to an anti-Semitic video posted online.

In August of 2023, Patron was arrested in Saskatoon for impersonating a police officer in a pair of incidents.

The first incident saw Patron approach a woman and her child, identify himself as police and accuse her of abduction. Patron was sentenced to 15 months in jail for the offence.

He unsuccessfully appealed both the conviction and sentence with Saskatchewan’s highest court ruling that Patron’s arguments were “irrelevant to the charges” he faced.

Additionally, Patron served as the leader of the “Canadian Nationalist Party” which was deregistered in 2022 after falling below the required 250-member threshold.

He led the party during the 2019 federal election.

The party described one of its aims as maintaining “Canada’s European-descended demographic majority.”
