Roughriders release Tino Sunseri, again

Tino Sunseri has been released from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the second time this year.

The international quarterback was dropped from the squad Tuesday. The team announced the move only hours after Roughrider president and CEO Craig Reynolds addressed media on the firings of head coach Corey Chamblin and of general manager and vice-president of football operations Brendan Taman.

Sunseri was first released from the Riders on June 14 after the team’s first pre-season game. He rejoined the squad July 1 following an injury to starting quarterback Darian Durant.

He saw the field this season on July 31 against the Edmonton Eskimos and on Sunday against the Ottawa Redblacks.

He entered Sunday’s game after Chamblin benched rookie quarterback Brett Smith — a move that drew the ire of many Roughrider fans.

Sunseri finished the season completing 17 of 26 passes for 228 yards and throwing zero touchdowns and one interception.
