Regina’s Ryan Getzlaf’s ‘15’ to be retired by Anaheim Ducks

Ryan Getzlaf will have his number 15 retired by the Anaheim Ducks this season, the team announced Tuesday.

“My family and I are so grateful to the Samuelis and the Ducks organization for this incredible honour,” Getzlaf said in a release. “None of this would be possible without all the amazing teammates, coaches and support staff I had in my career. I thank them all and can’t wait to celebrate in front of our great fans in January.”

The Regina-born Getzlaf spent all of his 17 NHL seasons in Anaheim, 12 of them as captain.

Selected by the then Mighty Ducks in the first round, 19th overall, of the 2003 NHL Draft, Getzlaf is the franchise leading scorer in both the regular season and playoffs.

Retiring at the end of the 2021-22 season, he played a franchise-record 1,150 career NHL games with the Ducks, scoring 1,013 points, 282 goals and 731 assists.

Getzlaf also leads Anaheim in all-time assists, even-strength points (664), overtime goals (11) and power-play assists (255).

His biggest achievement, however, a Stanley Cup championship in 2007 – Anaheim’s only league title.

En route to that 2007 Stanley Cup win, he led the team in postseason scoring with seven goals, 10 assists and 17 points.

“Ryan Getzlaf’s impact on the Ducks will be felt for generations to come,” said Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli. “While no player in club history played more games or scored more points, it’s his leadership, championship DNA and community contributions we will remember most.”

“He’s a legacy player who rightfully will have his jersey hung alongside Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya and Scott Niedermayer at Honda Center.”

Internationally with Team Canada, Getzlaf won gold medals at the World U18’s, World Junior Championships, World Cup of Hockey and two Olympics – 2010 and 2014.

He was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2023 and the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in 2025.

The Ducks will retire the No. 15 jersey of Ryan Getzlaf on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2027 against the Nashville Predators.
