Tuesday evening saw the Regina Public Library board of directors vote yes to issue a request for qualifications (RFQ) – marking the first step in finding a contractor to renew the library’s central branch. The RFQ is a precursor to an RFP or request for proposals, which will be issued in early 2026. The RFP will see developers pitch their vision for the external components of the building. The internal design and construction will be managed through a second process. The RFQ will be posted to SaskTenders in October and the decision for the official location will be announced next summer. Proposals for the shell may include renovating or enhancing current structures – or building entirely new. It might be sharing space with another tenant or some other similar scenario. Some of the library’s services will be moving to a temporary, leased operations centre in November. -With files from Katy Syrota.
