A lengthy investigation by Moose Jaw’s Police Service (MJPS) has led to the arrest of a 63-year-old man in connection to a major online scam. In 2024, MJPS officers began an investigation into fraudulent activities involving a resident in the city. A search warrant was executed at a home on Aug. 29. The investigation and a subsequent search warrant revealed evidence suggesting a large-scale online scam had occurred with victims across the country. Police say during the scam, victims were encouraged to send money via e-transfer or wire transfer as part of an online loan application through fraudulent websites. Following the discovery, MJPS arrested and charged a 63-year-old with one count each of fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and money laundering. The investigation is considered ongoing, with police working to identify additional victims with the help of other police services.
