A few representatives in Italy-Canada relations made their way to Saskatchewan this week. On Wednesday, Italy’s Ambassador to Canada Alessandro Cattaneo and Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver Paolo Miraglia Del Giduce made their way to Regina’s Italian Club. In his trip, Cattaneo says he’s visiting Saskatchewan to identify ways to improve trade and industry ties. “I believe there are very good reasons for me to visit Saskatchewan as an ambassador of Italy to Canada,” he said. “I believe it’s incredibly important to visit all over the country.” Appointed as ambassador in December 2024, it’s the first time that Cattaneo has visited Regina. “It was a great event here at the Italian club, I was glad to have the opportunity to see how active the club is, how united the Italian community is, and really congratulate the leaders of the club for their great energy, for their ambition, and for all the projects that keep the Italian cultural heritage alive here in Regina.” The Italian Club is one of Regina’s older operations, celebrating year 54. For four generations, it’s been a way to show Italian culture. “The good thing is that Canada and Italy, I believe, have a very strong image with each other,” he said. “Canada is a very strong brand in Italy. Canada is seen as a very advanced country, very educated in terms of science and research. They [Canadians] believe the same goes for Italy. The challenge is to translate this atmosphere of sympathy and mutual openness to something actionable to more business, more science, and more cultural links.” The pair will be present in Saskatoon on Thursday at the University of Saskatchewan, along with meeting Mayor Cynthia Block
