CAA Saskatchewan shifts from worst roads to pothole safety for annual campaign

Saskatchewan drivers will no longer be voting for the worst roads in the province, as CAA Saskatchewan is shifting the focus of its long-running public awareness campaign.

For more than a decade, CAA Saskatchewan has invited drivers to vote for the province’s worst roads. over the years, the campaign generated hundreds of thousands of votes and multiple top 10 lists, highlighting infrastructure issues to policy makers.

However, that focus is now shifting to what drivers can do to stay safe - specifically when faced with potholes and other hazards.

“The most common comments we heard during our campaign were, ‘How do we stay safe on roads with potholes? What can I do to prepare for the spring melt and unstable road conditions? And is there anything we can do to save money and not have repairs cost so much?” explained Angel Blair, communications manager in a news release from CAA Saskatchewan.

“That’s why we’re shifting our focus to helping motorists navigate potholes and construction season safely.”

To launch its 2026 campaign, CAA Saskatchewan shared 10 tips for drivers trying to navigate pothole season.

• Check tire pressure regularly.
• Ensure proper wheel alignment.
• Plan routes in advance.
• Slow down near potholes and construction areas. Slowing to 60km/h is the law when travelling through construction zones.
• Pull over safely to assess damage if you hit a pothole.
• Call for help if your vehicle is unsafe to drive.
• Consider additional insurance coverage for tire damage.
• Check the Highway Hotline for construction updates.
• Know alternate routes.
• Report potholes, whether you’re in the city, in town, or in a rural area.

CAA Saskatchewan reminded drivers there are local phone numbers and email addresses to voice their concerns over potholes and other road hazards.
