The 2008 Juno Awards might be over. But the lucrative Juno Awards effect lingers on, boosting record sales for Canada's top recording artists.

Since CTV's live Juno Awards telecast aired from Calgary's Pengrowth Saddledome on April 6, several winners have experienced noteworthy increases in CD sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Five-time Juno winner Feist, for example, saw a whopping 153 per cent swell in sales for "The Reminder," her acclaimed third album. "The Reminder," which scored Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Album of the Year for Feist, has been on the charts for almost a year. But thanks to her big Juno haul Feist's CD jumped from number 19 on the charts two weeks ago to number 2 this week.

That, as they say in the music biz, is just plain golden.

Feist on fire

"The sales response to a Juno Award win is across the board. It helps some acts more than others," says Kim Cooke, chairman of CARAS' nominating and voting committee.

"Feist's album catapulted her to true star status in Canada," says Cooke. "It was a double platinum record in Canada. Then her great night at the Junos was like a coronation."

Jully Black, a longtime Toronto R&B artist, is another artist feeling that post-Juno buzz. Nabbing the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for her album "Revival," Black has seen her CD sales jump 57 per cent in the past two weeks, moving from number 146 to number 63.

"It's really about the journey. We focus on the destination way too often," Black told reporters after her Juno win. But seeing sales swell doesn't hurt along the way.

Cashing in on the Juno effect

Michael Bubl is also basking in a little post-Juno Award glow. "Call Me Irresponsible," the crooner's latest album, jumped from number 27 to number 7 on the chart with an increase in sales of 36 per cent.

Even celebrated songbird Anne Murray is lapping up some post-Juno Awards glory. "Duets, Friends & Legends," the star's latest offering, jumped 10 spots from number 19 to number 9 on the chart.

Add to that Finger Eleven's 11 per cent sales climb with "Them Vs. You Vs. Me," an 18 per cent sales leap for Hedley's "Famous Last Words" and a chart jump from number 27 to number 9 for the Juno Awards 2008 compilation CD -- and the breadth of this year's Juno Awards effect cannot be denied.

"It feels like these sales spikes were larger and more across the board than what I recall in other years," says Cooke. "Just about all of the acts who were either on the show or were big winners show notable spikes."

As Cooke says, "We had a very positive Juno Awards show this year. It shows the immediate impact that a great performance can have on a given title."
