SACKVILLE, N.B. - RCMP have laid charges in the 15-year-old double slaying of a mother and her 12-year-old son in southeastern New Brunswick.

Raymond Joseph White, who is serving prison time in British Columbia, is charged with first-degree murder.

The bodies of Mary Lou Barnes, 37, and her son Larry Mills Jr. were found by a relative in their mobile home in British Settlement, near Sackville, on Nov. 6, 1995.

Both had been strangled and their bodies were found on a bed.

White, 63, is serving time for three armed robberies in Nova Scotia.

RCMP Sgt. Paul Ouellette says the charges result from new information that came to light a few weeks ago, but adds that White has been a person of interest since the time of the murders.
