The mother of murdered Joel Labossiere believes her son might still be alive today if RCMP had done more to protect him.

Joel Labossiere and his pregnant wife Magdalena were gunned down in their St. Vital home in April.

Rose-Marie Labossiere told CTV's Kelly Dehn she warned the RCMP in the weeks prior to the double murders there could be in trouble. She said two days before he was murdered, her son had filed for a protection order in court.

"I feel they could have done more to protect my son," she said. "Being that he had a protection order."

Thirty-eight-year-old Kelly Clarke has been charged with first degree murder in the killing of Joel and his wife.

Joel's mother said she never heard of Kelly Clarke before, but police say Jerome and Kelly Clarke were co-workers.

So far the RCMP has declined to comment on the protection order.

CTV captures dramatic takedown

CTV News was there Wednesday night in Garden City when police stopped a red SUV, drew their guns, and forced the suspect out of the vehicle.

This arrest in the latest in a murderous saga that has resulted in the deaths of five members of the same family.

In November, 2005, the bodies of Fernand Labossiere, 78, his wife Rita, 74, and their son Remi, 44, were found in the burned out shell of the family's western Manitoba home.

Autopsies revealed the three died of gunshot wounds before the home was burned to the ground.

On May 1, police arrested the couple's son, Jerome Labossiere for the murders. He and two other men are charged with three counts of first degree murder and three counts of conspiracy to commit murder. Coincidentally, Kelly Clarke was with Jerome Labossiere that day when he was arrested.

Court documents have revealed Joel Labossiere (who was killed in St. Vital) and Jerome had been in a legal battle over the family farm, which is valued at more than $1 million. Remi Labossiere's will, dated August 2000, left proceeds from the estate to six nephews and nieces. However a second will, written shortly before he was murdered, left all of the property to Jerome Labossiere and his wife, Claudette.

With a report from CTV's Kelly Dehn.
