MONTREAL - Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says tips from the public led to the arrest of an alleged war criminal this week.

The arrest of Cristobal Gonzalez-Ramirez in Alberta came a day after federal officials launched a website identifying 30 alleged war criminals.

The 44-year-old Honduran is alleged to have been a member of a special army unit in his homeland.

Kenney says officials arrested him after several tips from the public.

Kenney says tips are also coming in on other cases and he's hopeful there may be other arrests.

He says Gonzalez-Ramirez made a refugee claim in 2006, but was declared inadmissible and scheduled for removal last year but vanished.

Canada has some of the toughest rules in the world when it comes to keeping war criminals out of the country.

But officials say it can be difficult to spot those who make refugee claims using false passports.
