OAK BAY, B.C. - As police raced to answer a frantic 911 call from a woman in Oak Bay, B.C., emergency dispatchers made contact with Peter Lee, the man who killed his family and himself last week.

Oak Bay Police Chief Const. Ron Gaudet says Lee answered the phone but the line went dead.

Gaudet says police received the first 911 call at 3:06 a.m. and arrived at the home 11 minutes later, but they didn't enter the home until 3:28 a.m.

Police say they found a bloody palm print on the master bedroom door and inside a gasoline-soaked mattress along with the bodies of Lee, his estranged wife Sunny and their six-year-old son Christian.

The bodies of Sunny's parents were also in the home.

At a news conference, Gaudet defended the actions of his officers, saying they acted quickly, properly and safely.
