FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - A gas leak in a Spectra Energy (TSX:SPT.A) pipeline in northeastern B.C. has sent two workers to hospital.

RCMP say the leak isn't a case of sabotage, like similar bombings aimed at EnCana (TSX:ECA) pipelines in the last few months in the same area.

Const. Jackelynn Passarell with Fort St. John RCMP says officers are not treating the incident as suspicious and will allow the Transportation Safety Board and the National Energy Board to conduct investigations.

There had been reports of an explosion, but Spectra spokeswoman Rosemary Silva says it was a gas leak in its 18-inch Alaska Highway pipeline.

Silva says two workers were conducting routine maintenance at the site when the leak occurred, and both have been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There have been four bombings on EnCana pipelines in northeastern B.C. since October, but police have not yet made any arrests.
