With the Juno Awards just days away, host Russell Peters is hard at work writing material for Canada's biggest night in music. Should the country's musicians be worried?

During last year's awards show in Calgary, Peters took jabs at everyone from Nickelback and Avril Lavinge to Celine Dion, who wasn't in attendance.

Peters says Dion could indeed be in the limelight again this year. The pop diva has been nominated for three Juno Awards - Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year and Music DVD of the Year.

"Just because she's big doesn't mean she can't be nominated anymore," says Peters, defending Dion's nominations. "Obviously she's too big to show up but maybe we can entice (her husband) Rene to come out because I believe they have some casinos in Vancouver?"

Joking aside, Peters' first time out as Junos host in 2008 was a smashing success. It was one of the most watched broadcasts in the award show's history, with more than 4 million viewers. He also earned a Gemini Award for his hosting duties.

"It was a great experience," says Peters. "I had a good time and I'm looking forward to having a good time again."

But he's tight-lipped on the other celebrities he may be taking a stab at.

"There's some good stuff. There's some good solid stuff for me to play with," says Peters with a smile.

Born in Brampton, Ont., Peters has been doing standup comedy for the past 20 years and has showcased at festivals around the world.

He recently performed at London's O2 Arena, selling nearly 16,000 tickets. As reported on British site Chortle.co.uk, Peters broke the record for drawing the biggest comedy audience in the UK.

It was just a handful of tickets more than comedian Chris Rock sold there in May of last year, according to the site.

Peters' success overseas is largely due to word of mouth on the Internet.

Here at home, Peters has done numerous comedy festivals, including Montreal's Just For Laughs, and the TV specials "Comic Without Borders" for Showtime and "Comedy Now!" for The Comedy Network.

His latest DVD "Red, White and Brown" has sold more than 75,000 copies since its Canadian release in September, according to Peters' official website.

Peters will be crossing the country again this June with a 20th Anniversary Tour that will stop in Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary.

But before he brings his comedic genius to arenas around the country, Peters will stop in Vancouver, which will have a whole different feel than last year's show in "cowtown."

"The good news is the cowboy vibe will be gone. So thank God that's in the past. Maybe the stoner laid back West Coast vibe? You never know."

The JUNOS air on March 29 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV. Click here for the full broadcast schedule.
