OTTAWA - Ottawa's police board plans to discuss investigations into several allegations of prisoner abuse during its meeting today.

The board will see police seek approval to have the Ontario Provincial Police to investigate two cases of alleged abuse in the cellblocks.

Ottawa's acting police chief, Gilles Larochelle, said earlier this month he would ask for the OPP's help.

Coun. Maria McRae, one of the board's outgoing members, says it's important for the public to have faith in the police and the investigative process.

The force's image has been shaken in recent months following the release of videos that show officers kicking and kneeing prisoners.

At least three incidents involving police officers or civilian employees are under investigation.
