MILTON, Ont. - A woman in her 20s who faked cancer to get attention and money is due to appear today in an Ontario court.

Ashley Kirilow of Burlington,Ont., faces six counts of fraud.

She earlier pleaded guilty to one count of defrauding a woman out of about $7,400 collected at a fundraiser to help her.

Kirilow went so far as to shave her head and eyebrows and pluck her eyelashes to appear to have cancer.

When allegations surfaced against Kirilow, public outrage across the country was severe.

Angry comments on a Facebook page set up for her fake charity had some people saying they hoped she got cancer.

The Crown has said she did it to attract attention and her lawyer said Kirilow is sorry for what she's done.

A 21-year-old woman in northern Ontario who also faked cancer to swindle people received a sentence of six months of house arrest.

Jessica Ann Leeder admitted she defrauded co-workers in Timmins after pretending to have lung and stomach cancer for close to a year.
