The lucky streak continues for Lotto Max players in Eastern Ontario. Last month, a couple from Hawkesbury, Ont. won $50 million. Now, a retired couple from Brockville, Ont. is $15 million richer.

But just like their fellow winners down the highway, these latest jackpot winners are going to have to wait to pick up their prize, while the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation investigates.

Velma and Don Holmes realized they were winners on Saturday, when they took their ticket to get checked at the lottery kiosk at the 1,000 Islands Mall, in Brockville.

Elsie Bak's daughter, Jenny Kelsey, was working in the kiosk and checked the ticket.

"She checked her numbers at home and she thought she had $15,000," Bak told CTV Ottawa. "So Jenny put the ticket through and suddenly, all the noise went off for the terminal."

The noise got everyone's attention in the mall. Velma Holmes collapsed on the bench and began to cry.

"She was crying. Her husband, he was sitting and I don't think he could think what was going on. But she was crying," says Bak.

Bak says Velma Holmes have been playing the lottery for years, coming in once or twice a week to check her numbers.

"She's a nice lady. I was talking to her on the phone yesterday and she was still excited, still wound right up," Bak says.

The retired pair went to Toronto to pick up their prize. But the OLG is holding on to the money. They're investigating the seniors because their win is considered an insiders' win. That's because the couple's son once worked at Brockville bingo halls.

Joann and Gaetan Champagne also had to wait to pick up their lottery winnings.

The couple from Hawkesbury, along the Quebec border, won $50 million in the new year. But they too are being investigated because they once owned a convenience store.

The region is considered a lucky one. Just last week a $16-million ticket, split between a group of 10, was bought in Aylmer. In the last few years, more than a $110 million has been won in eastern Ontario and west Quebec.
