NORTH BAY, Ont. - An Ontario police officer whose husband and two children died of carbon monoxide poisoning has died.

Provincial police Const. Laurie Hawkins has been in a North Bay, Ont., hospital since the poisonous gas seeped through the family's home in Woodstock, Ont.

The bodies are her family were found on Dec. 1 -- police said a carbon buildup in the pipe of a gas fireplace caused a carbon monoxide leak in the home.

Hawkins was recently transported to the hospital in northern Ontario to be closer to friends and relatives.

The police force says Hawkins died at 12:30 a.m. today surrounded by family and loved ones.

A funeral was held Sunday for her 40-year-old husband Richard, the couple's 14-year-old daughter, Cassandra, and their 12-year-old son, Jordan.
