Ontario is currently battling nearly 200 wildfires, and while the total number of fires is not unprecedented, researchers at the Great Lakes Forestry Centre are focusing on extreme growth in the northwest, where some blazes expanded 40 kilometres in a single day. Researchers say the data will help improve forecasting and emergency response as dry conditions in the northeast raise concerns about increased fire danger in August. Cory Nordstrom has more.
