North Bay fire crews contained a basement blaze on Dane Avenue on Wednesday night. Smoke alarms alerted the sole occupant, who escaped. Neighbours and their pets were also safely evacuated. The blaze prompted a warning from officials against using extension cords as permanent wiring.
