Sudbury's nearly $8M snowstorm bill sparks emergency plan
Sudbury's mid-March snowstorm that paralyzed the city cost nearly $8 million, according to a report heading to city council Tuesday. Labour and overtime drove the bulk of expenses, prompting recommendations for a major storm response plan and command structure. A community survey of more than 1,600 residents found road-clearing information was difficult to find, with most relying on local news and social media. Councillor Mike Parent says the findings highlight the need for more localized updates and a better emergency blueprint, should another extreme storm hit again.
