A 20-year-old man is facing charges after a weekend altercation in Sault Ste. Marie that left another person with serious injuries. The investigation began around 4:25 a.m. on Nov. 15 after 911 operators received a report of an altercation in the area of Smale Avenue and Edmonds Avenue. “Officers were dispatched to the area and located a person with serious injuries at the intersection of McNabb Street and Pentagon Boulevard,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release Monday. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment. “An investigation revealed the accused, who is known to the victim, struck them with a shovel and punched them multiple times,” said police. Officers located the accused and took him into custody without incident around 3 a.m. Sunday morning. The man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. The accused was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12.
