A 25-year-old man from Toronto is facing a stunt driving charge after Ontario Provincial Police say he was caught travelling well above the speed limit on Highway 11/17 in northwestern Ontario. According to police, members of the Nipigon OPP detachment were conducting traffic enforcement on the highway Monday night when the vehicle was observed speeding. “A 25-year-old man from Toronto was observed travelling 149 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone,” OPP wrote in a social media post Tuesday. Charges and penalties Police said the motorist was charged with stunt driving and issued a court date to answer the charge. In addition to the charges, the man also received a 30-day driver’s licence suspension and the car involved was impounded for 14 days. Police warn of risks of excessive speed OPP used the incident to share a public warning about excessive speed, saying it puts the driver, passengers and everyone else using the highway at risk. “A few minutes saved simply aren’t worth the potential consequences,” said OPP. “Think twice before you speed,” added Const. Ryan Russ.
