Snow squalls warnings for Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie

CTV News weather specialist Rick Wyman has the details of the weather forecast for the next seven days across northeastern Ontario.

Sault Ste. Marie is under a snow squall warning Wednesday, with up to 40 cm expected beginning this evening and lasting into Friday morning.

Greater Sudbury could see up to 25 cm, Environment Canada said in a warning.

Snow is expected to begin Wednesday morning in Greater Sudbury and area, with 15 to 25 cm expected lasting until the evening.

Snow will fall “from Killarney Provincial Park eastward to and including the Highway 69 corridor,” the warning said.

“An Alberta clipper will move into the region this morning, bringing widespread snow. A lake effect band will develop (that) will lead to heavy snow and significantly reduced visibility.”

Travel will likely be hazardous, with visibility likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

In the Sault, snow squalls are expected to develop tonight with local snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 cm lasting into early Friday morning.

“Lake effect snow squalls are expected to push into the region tonight,” Environment Canada said.

“The squalls are expected to remain in place through Thursday, clearing the area early Friday morning ... Consider rescheduling travel and outdoor activities. Prepare for the possibility of quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”
