Henry, a polar bear at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Ontario, marked his 12th birthday with a unique treat – a giant cardboard Oh Henry! bar stuffed with peanuts, Mazuri feed, and a moose bone. The facility, the largest polar bear centre in the world, shared the celebration on social media Friday, calling it a “Henry-sized” snack for their “favourite 12-year-old.” Henry the polar bear Born on May 9, 2013, at Sea World Gold Coast in Australia, Henry was the first polar bear born in the country in three decades. He stayed with his mother until age two before moving to Cochrane in October 2015 after a three-day journey. Initially adjusting to his new home, Henry took quickly to snow but was slower to accept moose meat, seal meat, and seal oil – now one of his favourites. His socialization improved after introductions to other bears, Ganuk in 2016 and the late Inukshuk in 2018. Inukshuk passed away in the summer of 2024. Weighing approximately 418 kilograms, Henry is now sexually mature but may continue growing. His highest recorded weight was 545 kilograms. He is known for his playful nature, he enjoys breaking ice in pools and hoarding toys. The habitat also notes on its website that Henry still maintains a dedicated Australian fanbase.
