The North Bay Police Service says officers recovered and returned 27 shopping carts suspected of being stolen from seven local retailers on Oct. 14, with the carts valued at about $12,000. Operation Cart-nundrum The recovery marked the first day of Operation Cart-nundrum, an ongoing enforcement project focused on recovering stolen shopping carts and returning them to their rightful owners. Criminal charge laid Officers also laid a criminal charge of possession of property obtained by crime following an enforcement action in the 100 block of McIntyre Street West. Police cite costs to retailers Deputy Chief Robert Norman said the thefts carry consequences for businesses. Enforcement to continue Norman said the service’s focus is on both recovery and accountability. “Our focus is on addressing that behaviour, returning the carts to their rightful owners, and taking appropriate enforcement action where the evidence supports it,” said Norman in a news release Friday. Police said the initiative will continue.
