A 47-year-old woman faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking and impaired driving, following the theft of a school bus in northwestern Ontario on Monday. In the early morning hours of Dec. 15, the Anishinabek Police Service says it received a report that a school bus had been stolen from the Fort William First Nation community. The vehicle was later returned to the location from which it was stolen. Resistance and discovery of drugs An officer located a female suspect who, according to police, refused to follow commands and resisted arrest. “A search of their backpack revealed multiple clear baggies of suspected powder and crack cocaine,” said Anishinabek police in a news release. The woman was observed to be “groggy with slurred speech.” Incident at hospital The suspect was transported to hospital by police to complete a blood demand for the presence of drugs. “While at the hospital, the female committed an indecent act,” police said. Multiple charges laid As a result of the incident, the woman from Fort William First Nation is charged with drug trafficking, theft of a motor vehicle, impaired driving, obstructing a peace officer, committing an indecent act in a public place, mischief over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and failing to comply with a probation order. The accused was remanded into custody with a future court date.
