A 92-year-old victim was discovered following an early morning fire at a seniors residence in northwestern Ontario on Tuesday. Firefighters and Ontario Provincial Police responded to the blaze at around 5:22 a.m. on Sept. 22 at a Rose Manor residence on Sixth Street East in Fort Frances. “Following reports of an individual still inside, firefighters entered the building and located a 92-year-old individual, who was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a news release Sept. 23. “All other residents were safely evacuated from the building. Incident under investigation Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Services said in a post on social media that the apartment building fire took several hours to extinguish. “The incident remains under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police and the Office of the Fire Marshal,” the post said. “Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service will not be releasing further information regarding the cause or circumstances of the fire at this time.” The OPP Fort Frances Crime Unit is investigating in collaboration with the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Office of the Chief Coroner.
