A Sturgeon Falls woman is facing multiple charges, including impaired driving, after Ontario Provincial Police say an officer located and stopped a vehicle following a traffic complaint in North Bay last month. OPP said the officer responded to a call about a suspected impaired driver at about 3 p.m. on Aug. 22. “A short time later, the officer located a vehicle matching the description provided in the complaint as it quickly accelerated into a commercial parking lot on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls,” OPP said in a news release on Sept. 10. According to police, the officer then conducted a stop and, through investigation, determined the driver had consumed alcohol. “The driver was arrested and transported to the West Nipissing OPP detachment for further testing,” said provincial police. Charges and penalties The driver, a 46-year-old woman from Sturgeon Falls, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle without a currently validated permit, failing to have an insurance card, operating with an obstructed plate and operating without mudflaps, along with two impaired driving offences – including operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. In addition to the charges, she received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the pickup truck involved was impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on Oct. 1.
