A 26-year-old man from Pic Mobert First Nation has been charged with assaulting and resisting peace officers in Sault Ste. Marie. According to local police, officers charged the man following a 911 report of an unwanted person at a business in the 200 block of Great Northern Road at about 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 8. Police said officers were dispatched to the scene and directed the individual to leave the property, but the accused refused. “When officers began to take physical control of the accused to arrest them, the accused physically resisted, scratched, and kicked officers,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release Thursday. Police said officers eventually took the accused into custody. Multiple charges laid As a result of the incident, the man is charged with two counts of assault of a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, failing to leave a premises when directed, engaging in prohibited activity on a premises and being intoxicated in a common area of a residence. The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 23.
