The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario began construction of a new child-care facility Friday. The facility will be a standalone, prefabricated modular building designed to provide early learning and child-care for toddlers and preschool-aged children, the YMCA said in a news release Sept 25. “Construction is now underway with the facility expected to open by the end of the year to accommodate 34 additional spaces and addresses a significant shortage of spaces where families continue to face challenges finding quality care close to home,” the YMCA said. “Families want to live, work and build their lives in communities like Callander, and access to quality child-care is an important part of making that possible,” added VP of operations Rob Groccia. “This is an exciting project for Callander and an important investment in our community’s future as access to quality child-care makes a real difference for local families and helps support a growing, vibrant community,” said Callander Mayor Jordy Carr. The YMCA currently operates 11 child-care locations in the North Bay and surrounding area.
