A 63-year-old man from Espanola has been charged with several offences following a raid of a residence in the community last week. Armed with a warrant, Ontario Provincial Police entered the Second Avenue residence Oct. 14. “During the search, police seized suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $600, approximately $600 in Canadian currency, a handgun, a shotgun, ammunition, digital scales, packaging materials and a cellphone,” police said Oct. 19. The suspect has been charged with firearm and drug trafficking offences, as well as possession of the proceeds of crime and disobeying a court order. He has a court date in the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Dec. 7. “Drug trafficking investigations often uncover a range of criminal activity that can have a significant impact on community safety,” police said. “The OPP remains committed to disrupting the trafficking of illicit drugs and working to keep our communities safe.”
