Ontario Provincial Police charged an Edmonton tractor-trailer driver with 12 offences after a traffic stop on Highway 17 east of Mattawa over the Thanksgiving weekend. The incident began around 9 a.m. on Oct. 11 when police clocked the transport going 115 km/h in a 90 km/h zone, OPP said in a news release Wednesday. “During the investigation, officers determined the driver had been operating the commercial vehicle in contravention of multiple hours-of-service and record-keeping requirements,” OPP said. “The driver’s paper records indicated the trip from Kenora to North Bay had been completed in 12 hours.” Some of the charges include speeding, exceeding 13 hours of driving time in a day, failing to take 10 hours off in a day, driving 16 hours since the last qualifying off-duty period and falsifying, mutilating, or defacing a record or document. Police said the driver’s carrier faces three charges and the tractor-trailer was placed out of service for 72 hours.
