A single-vehicle crash on Highway 11 has resulted in impaired driving charges for a Petawawa man over Thanksgiving weekend. Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single-vehicle collision on the highway in Marten River at about 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. “(The) investigation determined a passenger vehicle had struck multiple sections of guardrail along the highway,” OPP said in a news release Wednesday. Police said officers attended the scene and spoke with the driver. Through its investigation, OPP said officers determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. “As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay Police Service for further testing,” said police. Charges and penalties As a result, the driver, a 29-year-old man from Petawawa, was charged with two impaired driving offences – including operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. In addition to the charges, the motorist received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on Nov. 17. OPP urge public to report impaired driving Provincial police used the incident to remind the public of its commitment to getting impaired drivers off the road and the importance of reporting suspected impaired drivers. “If you suspect someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 911,” said OPP.
