Anishinabek Police Service launches new user-friendly website

Anishinabek police launch online tool for non-emergency crime reporting, like theft or vandalism, to ease pressure on emergency lines.

The Anishinabek Police Service has unveiled a redesigned website, offering improved accessibility, streamlined services and culturally sensitive design for the communities it serves.

Key features and accessibility upgrades

The new site, developed in collaboration with Greater Sudbury-based Indigenous and women-owned agency Design DePlume, emphasizes user-friendly navigation and enhanced features, including online crime reporting for non-emergencies, digital police record checks and a fully online recruitment process.

The website includes several updates aimed at better serving the police service’s 16 partner communities across northern Ontario, from Lake Huron to Long Lake north of Thunder Bay. The notable improvements also include:

• A Quick Escape feature for users seeking immediate privacy, particularly useful for those accessing sensitive information such as intimate partner violence resources.
• Mobile-responsive design for seamless use across devices.
• Accessibility enhancements for individuals using assistive technologies.
• Simplified navigation to access news, services, and community supports.

A culturally responsive approach

Anishinabek police officials emphasized that the redesign reflects its commitment to culturally informed policing.

“The new website creates a strong online presence and experience that reflects the diversity of our organization and the communities we serve, and respects our cultural approach to policing,” the service said in a news release.

The site will continue to evolve as a key communication tool, providing updates on programs, recruitment and public safety, said police officials.
