The Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a call about an aggressive bear in the Heather Crescent area on Friday afternoon. In a social media post at about 3 p.m., police said the Ministry of Natural Resources had been contacted to sedate and relocate the animal. “Residents are asked to remain in their homes when police and MNR are on scene to reduce the risk to people and pets while the bear is being tranquilized,” police said. Authorities also encouraged residents to review bear encounter prevention tips available through the MNR’s Bear Wise program. Animal relocated after brief scare The situation was resolved approximately half an hour later. “The bear has been trapped and no longer poses a risk,” police said in an update at about 3:30 p.m. Officials concluded the post by thanking the public for their cooperation during the incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. This incident came only days after a bear encounter in Sault Ste. Marie left two women with ‘serious’ injuries.
