A Syrian refugee family that recently opened a bakery in downtown Sudbury was the victim of vandalism last week and is expressing deep gratitude to fellow merchants. Last week the Quarquoz family found seven air gun bullet holes in their bakery window. Police confirm they are investigating and reviewing surveillance video of the area. Now, several downtown businesses are donating money to help with the repairs and confirm the money has already exceeded the goal. They are planning a presentation to the Damascus Bakery next week. Originally the goal was to raise $750 to replace the window, but organizers say that donations have exceeded $2,000. The family says they have received overwhelming support from customers and other businesses. Hussein Quarquoz is the owner of Damascus Bakery. “100% very good people here. Very smiling, very helping, It’s very, very good. Thank you everybody for helping me to fix the window.” said Quarquoz. Greater Sudbury Police say they do not believe the incident is racially motivated.
