A mile of sunflowers planted along a highway in Northern Ontario has been dubbed 'The Golden Mile'

Sault Ste. Marie — In Sylvan Valley, 30 minutes east of Sault Ste. Marie on highway 638, Lynn Orchard grows his popular sunflowers that span a mile long.

The bright, yellow flowers have become a big tourist hit. Every day, people pull over to take a picture with what locals have dubbed, 'The Golden Mile.'

“They’re a very pretty flower and I just thought I would give them a try and see what happens," said Orchard. "And then they come out like this and people enjoy them so much that I just kept doing it.

“It’s amazing how many people stop and look at them and take pictures in them. It makes everyone so happy.”

Orchard started growing the flowers in 2013. Each year he plants 50 pounds of bird seed for his Golden Mile.

The flowers are currently in full bloom and he expects the petals to start falling off next weekend.
